Minimum Qualifications
Associate of science degree in computer science, digital design, web design, or a related field, and one year of design and scripting experience; or any equivalent combination of directly related education, training and/or experience. Applicants within six months of meeting the education/experience requirement may be considered for trainee status.Successful completion of all applicable background checks pre-hire and ongoing are required.
Position Summary
This is professional, technical and artistic work designing and scripting software and information systems interfaces in the Department of Information Services - Applications Division. Both web based and non-web based (traditional Windows).
An employee assigned to this classification performs a variety of tasks relating to software graphical user interface (GUI) design, website design, software interface scripting, website scripting and information documentation including demos and mockups. This position provides technical and design expertise to support the programmer's and software architects of the Applications Division in writing and supporting software systems, and web applications. Specialized skills may include user interface design, human interface understanding, design planning, scripting and good usability practice implementation.
Work is performed under the direction of a higher level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Designs user interfaces for software applications.
Designs user interfaces for web based software applications using CSS.
Designs and develops CSS and scripts for County Website and internal users (Intranet).
Modifies user interface and existing programs to produce information and reports in response to user needs.
Assists Applications Division project teams in designing new and/or revised systems by creating design mockups, demos, and/or writing scripts & small programs.
Analyzes input requirements and designs user interface based on application.
Provides objective design and human interface advice to key software architecture staff.
Works with Programmers providing technical assistance and training to provide desired information to users.
Works with Programmers providing design assistance and user interface training.
Writes scripts and completes testing and debugging of interfaces to produce desired outcome.
Performs the duties listed, as well as those assigned, with professionalism and a sense of urgency.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of Web standards for accessibility, including W3C and Section 508.
Considerable knowledge of HTML and CSS.
Considerable knowledge of information research techniques and available resources.
Considerable knowledge/proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility.
Knowledge/basic understanding of JavaScript and API web integration.
Knowledge/basic understanding of Web Hosting in a Microsoft Windows Server environment using Internet Information Systems.
