Position Information
The City of Brentwood is seeking an Accounting Technician in the Finance and Information Systems Department. This position is in the Business Services Division, which focuses on all aspects of the City’s budget, financial reporting, and prepares numerous public facing Financial Documents. Your expertise will be pivotal in performing a variety of technical accounting duties in support of the City’s accounting and budget functions. Your contribution will be essential for the preparation of a wide variety of financial analysis and reporting, working with a team to produce and publish documents, including facilitating inter-departmental communication and coordination with exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support the Business Services Division in the preparation and publication of City financial documents as the team member responsible for
1. Providing a creative spark to ensure all documents are fresh each year and visually appealing to the public
2. Communication and coordination of information flow with all City departments to maintain document production timelines
3. Annual document file preparation and coordination of edits from the Business Services team and City departments
• Provide a detailed, timely and accurate daily analysis of the City’s operating bank account transactions in coordination with all City departments
• Prepare, process, maintain and verify a variety of financial, accounting, budgetary, and statistical documents and reports
• Support the Business Services Division by assisting with special projects and performing a variety of responsible and complex administrative and technical duties
The ideal candidate has exceptional organizational and time management skills and is detail-oriented and efficient. In addition, the position requires resourcefulness and a creative mind-set to be applied to the multiple financial documents being produced. Effective communication skills and a strong desire to try new approaches to work and learn new skills is also desirable. Experience in governmental accounting is a plus, but not required. Qualifications
Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training:
• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level course work in bookkeeping, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
Experience:
• Three years of experience performing increasingly responsible accounting support services.

The examination process will consist of:
1. Review of applications for minimum qualifications for the position and to ensure all materials have been submitted.
2. Written Exam - Applicants possessing these requirements will be invited to take the written test. The examination will cover elements of the knowledge and abilities identified in the job description.
All applicants that pass the examination process will be placed on the eligible list which is good for at least 6 months and may be extended up to an additional 18 months. This eligible list will be used by the City of Brentwood to fill all current and future openings in this classification as long as the list is active.
