Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting and two years experience in responsible accounting or bookkeeping work; or a Bachelor's degree with major course work in accounting, business or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Successful completion of a criminal history background investigation is required prior to employment. Applicants within six months of meeting the education/experience requirement may be considered for trainee status.
This is highly responsible technical work in bookkeeping and fiscal operations.
An employee in this class independently processes fiscal records and maintains books, ledgers, and journals, reviews fiscal documents and information, prepares grant reports, prepares fiscal reports with the use of charts, and assists in preparing and monitoring budget expenditures.
Work is directed and reviewed by an immediate administrative superior and by internal controls and periodic audits to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Prepares or supervises the preparation of routine and special fiscal statements.
Prepares and processes purchase orders, requisitions, invoices and assists in controlling inventories. Responsible for maintaining related records.
Responsible for the completion of specialized fiscal projects as needed and required by supervisor.
Maintains ledgers, journals and bookkeeping records.
Analyzes department programs to ascertain cost on a cost-accounting basis.
Audits incoming and outgoing paperwork concerning fiscal matters for error with suggestions for correcting.
Prepares payrolls and maintains payroll records.
Assists in the preparation of budgets and/or grants.
Prepares reports and statistical data, makes recommendations, performs limited analysis, reviews and monitors budget.
Assists in developing and installing accounting and bookkeeping methods and procedures.
Reviews campaign finance reports.
