Portland Public Schools (PPS) seeks a Director of Maintenance Services (Director) to oversee the district’s facility maintenance functions.
PPS is one of the largest property owners in the City of Portland with over 700 acres, 100 properties, 200 buildings and 9 million square feet of indoor space. The Director leads and manages all aspects of facility maintenance including oversight of the Electrical Department, Mechanical Department and Multi-Craft Department. This position manages approximately 100 district employed staff, dozens of contractors and an eight-figure annual budget. The position is responsible for the preparation of comprehensive preventative and corrective plans, staffing schedules, budgets, facility projects, contracts and staff, as well as supporting operational systems and procedures. The Director regularly coordinates with school based staff, district leadership, operational departments (such as Custodial, Warehouse, Construction, Planning and Real Estate, Security, Transportation, and more), state and local public agencies, labor partners, internal and external stakeholders and community members.
Competence in business and project management techniques, computer software and public processes is necessary. Incumbents exercise considerable professional judgment and make autonomous decisions affecting budgets, schedules and facility outcomes.
